Hirose could win the Oi Challenger's tournament in the finale against
Sugai. He fought in the Oi title match against Habu but lost with 1-4. |

Itodani had to defend his Ryu-O-title which was his first title in his career. Against his opponent Watanabe the result was a 1-4 loss. |

NAMEKATA Hisashi |
Namekata played an excellent Meijin A-class tournament with 6 wins and 3
losses and won the play-offs. |

SATO Amahiko |
Sato Amahiko made his debut on the stage of the title matches after his
win of the Oza challenger's tournament. |

TOYOSHIMA Masayuki |
Toyoshima was able to win the Kisei challenger's tournament and became
challenger of Habu. In the title fight he lost 1-3. He was also busy in
the Ryu-O tournament, the Osho challenger league and the Oza challenger's
tournament in which he reached the final but lost against Sato
Amahiko. |

WATANABE Akira |
Watanabe had a good start into 2015 when defended his Kio title very
convincingly with 3-0 against Habu.
His attempt to defend his Osho title had no success because he lost
against Goda with 3-4.
At the end of the year he tried to regain his lost Ryu-O title in a match
against title holder Itodani and he was successful. |

The player of the year 2014 became HABU Yoshiharu who could get 64 % of the votes versus MORIUCHI Toshiyuki.

Habu started the year 2014 with a loss. Despite of winning the Osho league
with a 6-0 score, he lost the title match against Watanabe with a tight
3-4.After that the year was pretty successful. He won the Meijin title
against Moriuchi and defended his Kisei, Oi and Oza titles in a very
convincing way.He also took part in the Kio challenger's tournament and
was in the finale of the Ryu-O challenger's tournament which he lost
against Itodani. |

ITODANI Tetsuro |
Itodani appeared on the stage of the title fights for the first time after
he could win the Ryu-O challenger's tournament. Here he beat Habu in the
finale with 2-1.
In the title match itself Itodani faced Moriuchi. After a clear 4-1 win
Itodani could win his first title. |

KIMURA Kazuki |
Kimura was the winner of the white group of the Oi challenger league. In
the finale he was succesful against Chida and had the chance to challenge
Habu in the title fight.
Despite of a great fight he lost against the title holder with 2-4. |

MIURA Hiroyuki |
Miura could win the finale of the Kio challenger's tounament after beating
Nagase. But in the title match he lost against Watanabe.
Miura also took part in the Ryu-O challenger's tournament and the Meijin
A-class. |

MORIUCHI
Toshiyuki 9. Dan Age: 44 |
Moriuchi had no good memories about his encounters with Habu in 2014. He
lost his Meijin title against him clearly. But he was successful in the
Kisei challenger's tournament and got another chance to challenge him. But
he couldn't get the Kisei title from him.
Moriuchi was participant of the Oi challenger league. At the end of the year
he fought against Itodani to defend his Ryu-O title. But the newcomer was
too strong this time and he lost his Ryu-O title. |

TOYOSHIMA Masayuki |
Toyoshima could win the finale of the Oza challenger's tournament and
challenged Habu. Here he lost after a big fight. He was also busy in
the Osho league and the Oi challenger league. |

WATANABE

Watanabe started the year successfully. He defended his Kio title against
Miura and his Osho title against Habu.
He also took part in the Meijin A-Class and the Oi challenger league.

He also took part in the Meijin A-Class and the Osho league. |

Again Habu could win the Meijin A-Class convincingly with 8 wins and just one loss. The title match versus his old rival Moriuchi was lost, but he defended his Kisei title versus Watanabe, the Oza title versus Nakamura and the Oi title versus Namekata. Habu also was busy in the Osho league, reached the semifinale of the Ryu-O challenger's tournament was in the finale of the Kio Challenger's tournament. |

Moriuchi could defend his Meijin title again versus Habu with 4-1. He also could win the Ryu-O challenger's tournament and played versus Watanabe: Here he took the title with 4 wins and 1 loss. Moriuchi also took part in the Oza challenger's tournament and reched the semifinale. | |

Nakamura had again in 2013 the opportunity to fight in a title match. This time he played versus Habu for the Oza title but lost just by 2-3. Nakamura also play in the Kisei tournament where he reached the seminfinale. |

Watanabe had a great
start in 2013. He won the Kio title versus Goda with 3-1 and the Osho
title versus Sato with 4-1. For the first time Watanabe hold three different
titles. He tried to win a fourth title in the Kisei title match versus
Habu but lost with 1-3. Watanabe also took part in the Meijin A-Class,
Oza challenger's tournament and Oi league. At the end of 2013 he had to
defend his Ryu-O title versus Moriuchi, but lost his title. |

wins and one loss. He also could beat Watanabe in the challenger's finale
but lost against title holder Habu in the Oi title fight. Fujii also took
part in the Ryu-O challenger's tournament. |

Goda took
part in the Meijin A-Class, reached the Kisei semifinale amd the quarterfinale
of the Oza challenger's tournament. The highlight was the win of the Kio
title. Goda could win against title holder Kubo with 3-1. |
HABU

The Meijin
A-Class tournament was an impressive demonstration of Habu's strength. He
could win this tournament with 9 wins and no loss and received the right
to challenge Meijin Moriuchi. There he lost with 2-4, but could defend his
Kisei title against Nakamura with 3-0 and his Oi title against Fujii with
4-1. In autumn he tried to win back the Oza title from Watanabe and he succeeded
with a score of 3-1. |
KUBO
Toshiaki 9. Dan Age: 37 |
The beginning of the
year was not too lucky for Kubo. He lost his Osho title against Sato with
1-4, had to give up the Kio title because of a 1-3 defeat against Goda
and had to leave the Meijin A-Class. Nevertheless Kubo kept on fighting.
He reached the quarterfinale of the Kisei challenger's tournament and
in the Meijin B-Class he belongs to the leading players. |
MARUYAMA
Tadahisa 9. Dan Age: 42 |
Maruyama
made his way to become challenger in the Ryu-O title match by winning the
Challenger's tournament in the finale against Yamasaki with 2-1. The Ryu-O
title fight itself ended with a 1-4 defeat against Watanabe. He also took part in the Meijin A-Class and the Oi Challenger league in which he finished second in the white group. |
MORIUCHI
Toshiyuki current title: Meijin 9. Dan Age: 42 |
Moriuchi managed to defend the Meijin title against his rival Habu after a 2-2 tie quite clear with 4-2. In the Oza challenger's tournament he reached the quarterfinale but lost against the subsequent finalist Nakamura. |
NAKAMURA
Taichi 6. Dan Age: 24 |
The youngest
participant of this voting played two great Challenger's tournaments. In
the Kisei Challenger's tournament he could win the finale against Fukaura
and appeared for the first time on the stage of a title fight. There he
played against title holder Habu and lost 0-3. In the Oza Challenger's tournament
Nakamura again reached the finale but lost against Habu again. |
SATO

The first
title match in 2012 was dominated by Sato. After winning the Osho league
with 5 wins and 1 loss he challenged Kubo in the Osho title fight and won
convincingly with 4-1. Additionally Sato played in the Meijin A-league. |
WATANABE
Akira current titles: Ryu-O 9. Dan Age: 28 |
Watanabe
played pretty well in challenger's tournaments. In the Meijin A-Class he
reached a score of 7-2 and finished second. In the Osho challenger league
he came in third and in the Oi challenger league he only lost the challenger's
finale against Fujii. Furthermore Watanabe reached the quarterfinale of the Kisei challenger's tournament. Watanabe had to defend two titles in 2012: He lost against Habu the Oza title fight but defended his Ryu-O title against Maruyama with 4-1. |

of the 82. Kisei challenger's knock-out tournament and got so the chance
to fight again for the Kisei title like the year before. |
HABU
Yoshiharu current titles: Kisei, Oi 9. Dan Age: 41 |
2011 was
a year Habu had to show his immense fighting spirit. In the Meijin title fight he was 0-3 back against Moriuchi, but he was able to strike back and to force a decisive 7th game. Although he finally lost his Meijin title he defended his Kisei title convincing with a 3-0 against Fukaura. In the Oi Challenger league he could win a play-off against Maruyama and the challenger's finale against Fujii. In the title match against Hirose he already was back 0-2 and 2-3 but Habu could win with 4-3. In the autumn Habu had to hand the Oza title (which he held for almost 20 years) over to Watanabe. |
HIROSE
Akihito 8. Dan, Age: 24 |
Hirose
began the year 2011 with the chance to win the Kio challenger's tournament.
But in the finale he had to accept the strength of Watanabe who beat him
twice. In 2010 Hirose won the Oi title, in 2011 he had to fight his first match as a title holder. His opponent was Habu and it was a long full-distance-match. At the end he lost his title with a narrow 3-4 to Habu. |
KUBO
Toshiaki current titles: Osho, Kio 9. Dan Age: 36 |
Kubo had
a great start in the year 2011. He was able to defend his Osho title again
Toyoshima with 4-2 and beat Watanabe in the Kio title match with 3-1. He also took part in the Meijin A-Class. In the Oza challenger tournament he was in the finale and here Watanabe could beat him. But Kubo had another chance for the next title match. In the finale of the Ryu-O challenger's tournament he fought in the finale against Maruyama, but he lost 1-2. |
MARUYAMA
Tadahisa 9. Dan Age: 41 |
Maruyama took part in Meijin A-class and reached the semifinale of the Oza challenger's tournament. In the Ryu-O challenger's knock-out tournament he met in the finale Kubo. Despite a loss in the first game of the finale he stroke back and could defeat Kubo in the next two games. The title fight against Watanabe however ended with 1 win and 4 losses for him. |
MORIUCHI
Toshiyuki current title: Meijin 9. Dan Age: 41 |
The Meijin
A-Class tournament saw Moriuchi as single leader with a score of 7 wins
and 2 losses. So he earned the right to challenge Habu for the Meijin title. And Moriuchi had a great start. He won the first three games. Despite Habu's comeback with three wins in a row, Moriuchi didn't lose his nerves and could gain the Meijin title in the seventh game. |
TOYOSHIMA

Toyoshima
could win the Osho league with 5 wins and 1 loss and became challenger of
Kubo. He fought bravely but he was beaten by Kubo with 2-4. Toyoshima also fought in the Oi challenger league where he had a good score with 3 wins and 2 losses. In the current Osho league he had again a good result with 5 wins and one loss, but he lost the playoff against Sato. |
WATANABE
Akira current titles: Oza, Ryu-O 9. Dan Age: 27 |
Watanabe
had a lot of work to do in 2011. He took part in the Osho league, Meijin
A-Class and Kisei challenger tournament. He could win the finale of the
Kio challenger tournament against Hirose and fought against Kubo for the
Kio title. Although he lost that title match, he could win the Oza challenger's
tournament and win the title against Habu with 3-0. He had to defend his Ryu-O-title against Maruyama. After 5 games he could defend his title once again with 4-1. |
